Short Answers
Q: What are your skating goals, both short-term and long-term?
I am a dual citizen of Taiwan and the U.S., and my short term goal is to find a serious partner that is willing to go all in and train hard with me and compete on the JGP circuit and at Junior Worlds representing Taiwan. Long term goals are to compete at Four Continents, the Senior Worlds, and other international competitions, all most likely representing Taiwan. (Representing the US is also a possibility!)
Q: What qualities do you possess that would make you a good partner?
I have lived in numerous countries around the world, in Asia where I spent most of my childhood and the U.S, where I now train. I am also home-schooled. This experience has made it very easy for me to connect with people, and also helped me to be calm, level-headed and mature for my age. I recently decided to switch from freestyle to ice dancing, and in making this decision I am well aware of what I want and the amount of hard work necessary to succeed as an ice dancer. Competing in Standard/Latin on the side has made me very used to long but efficient workdays. I also speak, read and write fluently in English, Chinese and Japanese, so travelling overseas for events will be easier with me.
Extra comments:
I’m not here to be average – I’m here to find someone who will recognize this unique opportunity I provide to compete for Taiwan and win with me. I have dual citizenship because my mother is Taiwanese and my father is from Texas. As of now, there are no formed ice dance pairs in Taiwan and all the JGP/SGPs as well as JW/SW spots are wide open for us to take. Also, I am quite mobile. My family and I have lived in many countries, so moving (and doing so on days notice) is not an issue for us. The major reason I switched to ice dancing was the frequent compliments I received on my edge quality and sense of musicality, usually focusing on my having a “wonderful natural flow/run on the ice”. I believe ice dancing will allow me to play to my significant strengths in these areas. While I may not have passed the compulsories nor the free dances yet, I plan to finish the pattern dances by August 2017. I know I am capable of doing this, as I passed all of the USFSA MIF and FS tests from Pre-Preliminary up to Junior MIF and Intermediate FS within 3 months, all on the first try. Also, I have a Grade 8 Merit pass in Piano Performance from ABRSM, as I have played piano from age 4 and have always been very sensitive to music. I have danced and loved Classical Ballet since I was 3. I am also very into Standard/Latin, so I have a wide range of dance styles I’m comfortable with.
